Has Wizkid quit EME Records? If
so, what is the cause? There seem to be no end to the barrage of questions on the
lips of fans and music buffs after the 22 year-old artiste made some
controversial comments via twitter on Friday.
His words were short and sharp
but the tone could not be mistaken. “Moving
on to start all over again F**k it” he angrily tweeted. Wizkid added later, “Don’t
take loyalty for stupidity, don’t.”
This was all that was needed to
reveal that there is a serious crisis rocking the five year-old affinity
between Wizkid and his record label led by the suave R&B singer cum-executive, Bankole Wellington otherwise known as Banky W.
Interestingly, this comes about
the same time last year when the grounds finally caved under the popular Mo’Hits
Record jointly owned by crooner, D’Banj and producer, Don Jazzy. Like Wizkid, Don
Jazzy broke the bombshell via a series of updates via twitter.
Initially, they were reports of a
rift between Wizkid and his EME boss Banky W but the duo vehemently denied insisting
that all was well with their 5 year-old music union.
But that is not all. Wizkid’s outburst on Twitter is not the only curious element
about the strained relationship between the artiste and label. The artiste went
further by removing EME/ Konvict tag off his profile
on Twitter and Instagram. His new profile now reads
“Management GodwinTom his personal manager and DisturbingLDN.
Showoffmag investigations have however
revealed that Banky W is the reason Wizkid may be leaving EME as the pop star has shown his displeasure over
how revenues generated by him is
being handled by the record label boss. Banky W allegedly
owns a significant percentage of Wizkid’s revenue and he wanted that off his contract, which Banky W didn’t agree to. Sources also added that Wizkid paid a
significant amount to have his contract terminated from EME.
Wizkid has been in the UK since the beginning of the year and
has not hidden the fact that he is now working with DisturbingLondon, a management
team that also manages UK rapper, Tinnie Tempah.
Another source claims Banky W and Wizkid are not on good
terms and this was part of the reason Wizkid moved from the EME mansion to his
personal home. Although no official statement has been made as at press time,
the signs are visible enough to claim that the Pakurumo crooner may be on his way out of EME records.
Showoffmag is monitoring the development as more revelations
are expected to emerge. A source confided that an official statement will soon
be made by EME Records but it was yet to be made available as at press time.
